About The Owner
Valerie Calver
National Level Certified Coach | Gold Level Status
Welcome to The Skating Studio, where passion and progress come together. I’m Valerie, the owner and head coach. I hold a National Level Coaching Certification with eleven additional Level 4 tasks completed, and I’m proud to be recognized as a Gold Level Status coach.
With over forty years of coaching experience and thirteen years as a skating director, I’ve had the privilege of working with skaters at all levels from beginners to Junior Competitive athletes. I’ve coached students to success in Gold Free Skate, Gold Dance, and Gold Artistic programs. My experience also includes working with hockey players and teaching skaters with special needs, for which I hold a specialized diploma.
At The Skating Studio, I focus on building strong skating skills in a creative, fun, and supportive environment. I believe in the power of skating to foster confidence, connection, and personal growth.
More than just a skating school, we are a community that welcomes all. I’m excited to share upcoming opportunities like camps and special programs where skaters can learn, grow, and create lasting memories together.
Let’s skate, shine, and inspire!

I strive to create a fun, supportive atmosphere on the ice where skaters feel confident and encouraged to challenge themselves. I’m excited to begin this next chapter and inspire the next generation of skaters!
Tara
With a background in figure skating, ballet dancing, and sports, I truly enjoy any activity involving movement. I have been figure skating since I was four years old and was in Thornhill Figure Skating Club up until two years ago, when I decided to begin coaching in Richmond Hill. Alongside that, I have been working with children at Steelesview Public School for the past 4 years, mentoring them in reading, writing, and math. My experience in sports, mentoring, and coaching has taught me how to create effective teaching methods, adapt to different learning styles, and encourage children to build confidence in their abilities and learning. Through patience and structure, I will create a supportive environment that motivates students to learn and grow.

I love working with children of all ages and abilities, helping them build confidence on the ice while learning the fundamentals in a fun and supportive way. As an ambitious and friendly coach, my goal is to ensure every child feels successful, safe, and excited to learn.
Rosalynn Dela Cruz
With over 10 years of figure skating experience, I bring a deep understanding of the sport and a genuine passion for helping skaters grow. After several years of coaching, I’ve developed a supportive, athlete‑centered approach that encourages confidence, curiosity, and steady progress on the ice. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and am a registered kinesiologist, allowing me to blend evidence‑based movement principles with on‑ice skill development. Currently pursuing my master’s degree in sport science, I’m continually expanding my knowledge to better support athletes of all ages and levels. My coaching style is friendly, encouraging, and athlete‑centered — I strive to create a positive environment where skaters feel supported, confident, and excited to grow.
Sabina Nassyrova
Hi, My name is Sabina Nassyrova, and I began figure skating at the age of seven. I trained as a professional athlete for 12 years, gaining extensive experience through high-level competitive skating. Throughout my career, I traveled across Russia and Canada and worked with highly respected coaches, including Olympic-level figure skaters who share a deep passion for the sport.
I am currently pursuing a degree in Kinesiology at York University, which strengthens my understanding of movement, performance, and physical development. With three years of coaching experience, I enjoy guiding skaters at different stages of their development, from beginners learning the basics to those refining their technique. I focus on creating a positive and structured learning environment where skaters can build confidence, improve skills, and progress at their own pace while developing a strong connection to the sport.
